Washington TEs coach says Logan Thomas one of the more ‘complete’ tight ends in the NFL

It’s not often we hear from some of the Washington Football Team’s position coaches. That changed on Monday when they met with the media ahead of the team’s minicamp.

Pete Hoener is Washington’s tight ends coach  — and one of the best in the NFL. The presence of Hoener on staff is one reason why head coach Ron Rivera didn’t panic last offseason when his team desperately needed to address the tight end position.

Instead of making a big splash, Washington signed former college quarterback Logan Thomas to a modest two-year deal worth $6 million in March 2020.

Thomas rewarded the Football Team by setting career highs in every statistical category. He recorded 72 receptions for 670 yards and six touchdowns.

According to Hoener, the best is yet to come for Thomas.

I think right now, when I talk about a complete tight end, he’s got to be in the top five, six or seven in the league. As far as the way he blocks, his total attitude as a real pro, his leadership qualities, and then his production as a receiver obviously is proven now. And I just look for that to keep going up and up.

That’s high praise from a coach who has been in the NFL for 23 years and coached some really talented players.

Hoener continued to heap praise on Thomas.

“He played in over 1,000 plays and was out there in every game,” Hoener said. “As far as, probably, the most reliable offensive player and dependable player that we had on the team last year.”

Not only is Thomas a terrific receiver, but he’s also a great blocker, too. That’s what separates him from some of the game’s other tight ends.

With Thomas set to enter the final year of his contract in 2021, don’t be surprised if Washington looks to get something done to keep him on the Football Team for years to come.
