Tim Tebow invited to New York Mets spring training camp for fifth straight year.

The New York Mets announced their non-roster invitees to spring training on Saturday, and yes, Tim Tebow is once again on the list.

The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner has been invited to the Mets’ major league camp in each of the past four years. He has combined to hit .151 in 34 games, including a home run last spring before camps were closed.

Tebow, 33, didn’t play last season because the pandemic wiped out the minor league season. In 2019, he batted .163 in 77 games in Class AAA before a finger injury ended his season. In 2018, he was having a successful year in Class AA in which he was named an Eastern League All-Star before he fractured his right hamate bone in July. He batted .273 over 84 games.

Tebow signed a minor league deal with the Mets in 2016 and has not yet reached the majors. But he is not yet ready to give up on his major league dream.

“That would obviously be something that would be special, and I think another part of the dream,” Tebow said last February about reaching the majors. “Part of it’s just playing every day and enjoying it and competing, which I love. Obviously, that would be awesome. It would be a lie if I said that wouldn’t be super cool. … But I wouldn’t say it would be a success or failure if that did or did not happen.”
