LaVar Ball calls the Pistons ‘raggedy as hell’ after they waive LiAngelo Ball

The run of all three Ball brothers being NBA players lasted 11 days after the Detroit Pistons waived LiAngelo Ball on Sunday.

And his father, LaVar, is already blasting the Pistons organization.

LiAngelo signed a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract earlier this month, which basically presented him with a camp invite and an opportunity to compete for a spot with the G League-affiliate Grand Rapids Drive. But evidently, the Pistons had seen enough of LiAngelo who didn’t appear in any preseason games and was listed out with an ankle sprain on Sunday before his release.

None of that, though, mattered to LaVar. He took aim at the Pistons in a Bleacher Report AMA, calling the franchise “raggedy as hell.”

“I definitely have thoughts on that,” he said. “The people in Detroit are great. I love the fans, but the franchise over there is raggedy as hell. They don’t know a good player. I was giving them a lottery pick for free! Has the skills to play and the notoriety to bring everybody to the game. How do you throw that out the window?

“They’re gonna learn the hard way. My boys are gonna end up together playing somewhere. ‘Gelo can shoot the lights out. That was raggedy what they did. But hey, they’re gonna learn the hard way.”

Here we go again.

LaVar has been beyond outlandish about LiAngelo’s basketball talents ever since the middle child signed with UCLA as a three-star recruit. But immediately trashing the Pistons after they waived LiAngelo does no favors at all for that player’s NBA hopes. It’s burning a bridge with one of the few NBA teams that even gave LiAngelo a serious look.

The 22-year-old spent part of last season with Oklahoma City’s G League affiliate before signing with Detroit.
